HOW TO SLAY TO A NIGERIAN WEDDING ON A BUDGET

We all love celebrations, that’s one of the things that makes us Nigerians and irrespective of the ceremony or event, we always want to look our best.

But in the quest to slay and look good, we shouldn’t break the bank so that we don’t end up like the proverbial man/woman who uses all the money in their account to slay to a party but ends up drinking garri at home for the next 3 months because they can’t afford to buy food.

Now Let’s get back to the topic at hand.

There are different tribes in Nigeria which brings about some little differences when it comes to their wedding ceremonies but there  are some peculiarities in most Nigerian Wedding ceremonies irrespective of the tribe.

One of this peculiarity is:

  • Choosing a Common Fabric for guests: It is rare to come by a Nigerian wedding without hearing about “Aso Ebi”

Aso-Ebi is a unique tradition in some African countries where the friends and family members of the Bride and Groom wear coordinated outfits made of the same color and fabric design.

The term “Aso-Ebi” originates from the Yoruba tribe of Nigeria with a literal translation of “family attire”. In recent years, Nigerians have generalized this term to mean a coordinated outfit regardless of where you come from in Nigeria.

DON’T WANNA BREAK THE BANK TO SLAY? READ THIS!!!

One of the things that make us break the bank because we want to attend a wedding ceremony is the dressing aspect.

We want out Dresses, shoes, jewelry, makeup, and hair (for ladies) to all be on fleek even to the detriment of our account balance.

More often than not Aso Ebi tends to be on the high side in terms of monetary value and in order not to look like the odd one out most people will go to any length to make sure they purchase it. Even if it means using all their savings.

Here is the deal, did you know that a wedding ceremony cannot last for more than 12 hours?

Then why use all your money just to enjoy 12 hours of “being among“?

If you have a similar fabric to the color code chosen for the ceremony, kindly wear it.

Except if the entry into the event is by the purchase of Aso Ebi and if that’s the case, you should stay back at home if you can’t afford the fabric at that moment.

Not only will you be saving your pocket from purchasing the fabric, but you would also be saving the money you would have paid to  a Fashion designer to sew it for you

The next aspect of our dressing to consider is our shoes and jewelry.

We all want to wear a beautiful pair of shoes and jewelry that matches our outfit and that’s absolutely fine but do not buy new shoes or jewelry except it is absolutely necessary.

You either make do with the one you have before that matches the outfit or find an alternative one.

For Ladies, I know how much it costs to get a nice weave or a beautiful face beat if you can effortlessly afford those it is absolutely fine to go for it, but if you can’t, pretty please, make do with what you have and what you can afford.

Most of us have the basic brow carving skill, just do it yourself, apply some powder, lipstick and get going.

No matter how much you want to slay on that day, don’t forget that the main purpose of the event is to celebrate the love life of two beautiful people coming together as one in holy matrimony.

Go out there to celebrate with them and have fun without having to go hungry for the next 3 months.
